About the book
A pope with Albanian roots: the story of the Albani family and Clement XI.
The Albani, descendants of Albanian emigrants to Italy, produced one of the most important popes of the 18th century: Giovanni Francesco Albani, who reigned as Clement XI from 1700 to 1721. Prof. Dr. Eqrem M. Zenelaj reconstructs the genealogy of the family from Urbino and Bergamo on the basis of archival documents.
Including the acts of the Albanian Council of 1703 (“Kuvendi i Arbënit”), convened under Clement XI. Reviewed by Univ.-Prof. Richard Potz (Vienna); an expanded second edition, co-authored with Dod Luli, appeared in 2024 under the title “Papa shqiptar Klemens XI-Albani”.
